Mount Sweeps Weekend Matches

NEWBURGH, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College women's tennis team ran their win streak to four with a pair of victories over the weekend. The Knights (7-2) defeated Polytechnic Institute of NYU on Saturday, 9-0, and then went on the road to defeat the College of Staten Island on Sunday, also by a score of 9-0.

On Saturday, the Knights yielded just three total games in the nine matches with the Fighting Blue Jays. The team of sophomore Gabriela Murphy-Goldberg (Newburgh, N.Y.) and senior Lindsay Searle (Farmington, Conn.) cruised to an 8-1 win at first doubles. Sophomores Emily Gregory (Albertson, N.Y.) and Jen Gregory (Albertson, N.Y.) blanked their opponents at second doubles, 8-0, as did senior Laura Galante (Newington, Conn.) and sophomore Jackie Ivan (Binghamton, N.Y.) at third doubles.

In singles action, Murphy-Goldberg, freshman Jaimee Lubniewski (Middletown, N.Y.), Emily Gregory, and Jen Gregory all were 6-0, 6-0 winners. Searle won 6-0, 6-1 at second singles, while sophomore Linnea Mowat (Cornwall, N.Y.) took a 6-1, 6-0 decision at fourth singles.

The dominance continued on Sunday against the College of Staten Island. Murphy-Goldberg and Searle fought out an 8-4 decision at first doubles. Gregory/Gregory were perfect again at second doubles, winning 8-0, and the team of Lubniewski and freshman Jillian Torre (Bohemia, N.Y.) won 8-1 at third doubles.

Again rolling to 6-0, 6-0 wins in singles were Murphy-Goldberg, Lubniewski, and Mowat. Searle took her match, 6-3, 6-1, at second singles. Emily Gregory was a 6-1, 6-0 winner at fifth singles, while Jen Gregory matched her score at sixth singles.

The next week of matches will decide the regular season championship and the seeding at the year-end Skyline Conference tournament. The Knights will travel to also unbeaten Bard College on Thursday for a 6:00 p.m. match. The Mount will then host third-place Purchase College on Saturday in a 1:00 p.m. start.
