OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – The fifth-seeded Mount Saint Mary College women's soccer team defeated fourth-seeded SUNY College at Old Westbury in the Skyline Conference quarterfinals on Saturday by a score of 1-0. The victory moves the Knights to 11-9 overall, while Old Westbury finishes their season at 11-8.
The Panthers held an 11-4 shot advantage in the first half, but despite this advantage, the Knights were able to get on the board. Freshman
Jenna Donahue (Brookhaven, N.Y.) drilled a shot from 25 yards out past Old Westbury goalkeeper Jennifer Kupfer (Bellmore, N.Y.) in the 34th minute of play to give the Knights a 1-0 lead going into halftime.
The Panthers continued their offensive pressure into the second half, once again holding a shot advantage over the Mount. Senior goalkeeper
Megan Cotta (Brick, N.J.) tallied five saves in the second half to solidify the shutout for the Knights. Cotta finished with nine saves on the day. Donahue recorded four shots, three of which were on goal, and the Mount finished with eight on the game.
The Knights will travel to top-seeded St. Joseph's College for a Skyline semifinal contest on Wednesday, November 3.
