NEWBURGH, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College women's volleyball team defeated Sarah Lawrence College in straight sets on Wednesday evening. The Knights (19-9) were impressive in the win, posting a straight set victory over the Gryphons (25-4, 25-9, 25-16), who now stand at 8-9 on the season.
It was a quick start for the Knights as sophomore
Lauren Halverson (Patchogue, N.Y.) started the match off with 13 consecutive service points. Halverson went on to finish with 22 assists, eight service aces, and seven digs.
Tying Halverson with a team-high seven digs was junior
Teresa Sorrentino (Bellerose, N.Y.). Sorrentino and senior
Elizabeth Douress (Rahway, N.J.) both led with a team-high 8 kills. Sophomore
Maria Moorman (Kings Park, N.Y.) added 4 kills on 10 attempts without an error. Sophomore
Erica Southern (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) and junior
Meagan Lewis-Bie (Rocky Point, N.Y.) served up four aces each.
The Knights will be seeking their first twenty-win season in program history as they host Medgar Evers College on Saturday. Match time is now 2:00 p.m. in Newburgh.
