RIVERDALE, NY – The Mount Saint Mary College women's volleyball team opened up their Skyline Conference season with a victory over the College of Mount Saint Vincent. The Blue Knights improved to 6-7 overall and to 1-0 in the conference.
Mount Saint Mary got off to a quick start and captured the opening set, 25-19. In the second set, the Blue Knights fell behind 22-13. But behind the serving of sophomore
Teresa Sorrentino (Bellerose, N.Y.), they rallied for eleven consecutive points and eventually took the set, 25-23. The Mount jumped out to a 10-3 lead in the third set and never looked back, completing the sweep, 25-20.
Junior
Elizabeth Douress (Rahway, N.J.) led the team with 8 kills and finished the match with a hitting percentage of .316. Sophomore
Courtney Kenney (Hicksville, N.Y.) had 7 kills and 8 digs. Sophomore
Heather Schaeffer (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) closed out the night with a team-high 20 digs.
Up next for Mount Saint Mary is a Skyline Conference play date at St. Joseph's College on Saturday. The Blue Knights will take on St. Joseph's at 12:00 p.m. and SUNY College at Old Westbury at 2:00 p.m.
