NEWBURGH, NY – Led by 20 points from junior
Meredith Paggi (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.), the Mount Saint Mary College women's basketball team captured their eleventh straight victory with an 82-46 defeat of the Polytechnic Institute of NYU on Wednesday evening. The Blue Knights improved to 15-4 overall and to 12-0 in the Skyline Conference while the Blue Jays dropped to 7-11 overall, 4-8 in the conference.
The two teams traded buckets in the opening minutes and a jumper from Polytechnic freshman Megan Bosi (Bergen, N.J.) gave the Blue Jays a 5-4 lead. It would be all Mount Saint Mary from that point forward. The Blue Knights kicked off a 17-0 run to take control of the game and Polytechnic would never threaten again. Mount Saint Mary led by twenty-six at the half (48-22) and never led by fewer than that margin for the rest of the way.
Paggi shot 9-for-11 from the floor, only missing on two attempts from behind the arc, to finish with a game-high 20 points. Freshman
Amanda Horvers (Kingston, N.Y.) was the only other player in double figures with 12. Junior
Chrissy Zrowka (Brick, N.J.) finished with 8 points and 11 assists. Mount Saint Mary finished 34-of-68 (50-percent) from the field.
Junior Shelby Lipka (Whitehall, N.J.) led the way for the Blue Jays with 16 points. Freshman Margeaux Pickell (Howell, N.J.) totaled 10 points and 7 assists. Polytechnic shot 32-percent for the night.
Mount Saint Mary heads to Farmingdale State College for their next scheduled contest on Saturday, February 7. Farmingdale currently sits one game behind the Blue Knights in the Skyline Conference standings. The tip, in what could be a preview of the Skyline championship game, is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
