NEWBURGH, N.Y. – On Wednesday night, the Mount Saint Mary College women's basketball team defeated the Sage Gators with an impressive defensive showing. The Mount limited the Gators to just 22.0% from the field in improving to 6-2 overall (4-0 Skyline). Sage fell to 4-5 overall (2-2 Skyline).
On the offensive end, the Blue Knights were led by senior
Shannon Sangster (Syracuse, N.Y.) who led all scorers with 18 points on 66.7% shooting. She also pulled down 8 rebounds. Freshman Kate Harnett (Floral Park, N.Y.), sophomore
Natalie Garbie (Bayville, N.J.), and senior
Catie Biordi (Beacon, N.Y.) also contributed double digit points; they scored 13, 12, and 10, respectively.
The Gators were led by senior Amanda Crans (Watkins Glen, N.Y.) with a team high 8 points and sophomore Kelsey Frament (Waterford, N.Y.) who totaled 8 rebounds.
The Mount jumped out to a 20-6 advantage after ten minutes and continued their strong play as they carried a 31-point lead into the half. As the second half started, the Blue Knights held the Gators scoreless for nearly six minutes as they increased their lead to 41 points. Sangster led the charge in the second half by scoring eight of the Mount's first ten points.
The Mount Saint Mary College women's basketball team returns to action on Saturday, December 12 at 1:00 p.m. The Blue Knights will host Baruch College in a non-conference tilt in the Kaplan Center.
