NEWBURGH, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College women's basketball opened the second half with a 21-8 run and went on to defeat the College of Mount Saint Vincent by a final score of 67-45 in Skyline Conference action on Thursday night. The Blue Knights bumped up to 4-2 overall and to 2-0 in the conference while the Dolphins fell to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in the conference.
Mount Saint Mary led by six at the break (32-26) before dominating the opening ten minutes of the second half. A pair of free throws by junior
Jess Tice (Altamont, N.Y.) at the 8:09 mark put the game well out of reach at 53-34. Mount Saint Vincent wouldn't get closer than seventeen for the remainder of the contest.
Senior
Shannon Sangster (Syracuse, N.Y.) paced the Blue Knights with 20 points on 8-of-11 shooting. Sangster also pulled down 7 rebounds, tying for the team-high with Tice, who had 8 points. Senior
Catie Biordi (Beacon, N.Y.) netted 11 points, making 4-of-6 attempts from the floor.
Mount Saint Vincent struggled in the face of the defensive pressure of the Blue Knights and shot just 25.5-percent for the game. Senior Lauren Percodani (Staten Island, N.Y.) and sophomore Jen Mocanu (Middletown, N.J.) each totaled 9 points for the Dolphins.
The Blue Knights shot 51.1-percent for the game and were stellar at the free throw line, draining 19-of-21 attempts. They out-rebounded the Dolphins by a margin of 43-28.
Mount Saint Mary continues Skyline Conference play with a trip to St. Joseph's College on Saturday. The Blue Knights will take on the Golden Eagles starting at 4:00 p.m.
