JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Playing in their first-ever ECAC Metro Region Tournament, the Mount Saint Mary College women's soccer team lost to New Jersey City University, 7-2, in Wednesday's quarterfinal. The Blue Knights finish their season at 9-9-2 overall.

The Gothic Knights seized an early two-goal lead as sophomore Julia Caseres (Union, N.J.) put home her 27th and 28th goals of the season. Mount Saint Mary senior Kristen Maggio (Smithtown, N.Y.) brought the Blue Knights back to within one with an unassisted goal in the 33rd minute. Maggio stole the ball from a defender and then poked it past a sliding goalkeeper to make it 2-1.

A comeback was not meant to be, however, as New Jersey City scored two more goals before the half and held a 4-1 advantage at the break. A penalty kick in the 52nd minute made it 5-1 in favor of the Gothic Knights. Senior Danielle Bucco (Washingtonville, N.Y.) put home a penalty kick of her own in the 72nd minute to cut it to 5-2, but New Jersey City answered with two more goals to make the final tally 7-2.

The Blue Knights played the quarterfinal with just twelve players because of academic commitments on campus.

New Jersey City will play the winner of today's game between William Paterson University and SUNY College at Old Westbury.
