NEWBURGH, NY – The Mount Saint Mary College women's tennis team improved to 8-0 overall with a 9-0 defeat of Skyline Conference foe, Farmingdale State College, on Sunday at Cronomer Park.
At first doubles, freshman
Gabriela Murphy-Goldberg (Newburgh, N.Y.) and senior
Caitlin Giordano (Walden, N.Y.) teamed for an 8-3 win. Juniors
Rebecca Schwartz (New Windsor, N.Y.) and
Lindsay Searle (Unionville, Conn.) partnered for an 8-3 victory at second doubles, while freshmen Jennifer Gregory (Albertson, N.Y.) and
Emily Gregory (Albertson, N.Y.) captured an 8-1 win at third doubles.
After dropping the first set (6-1) and winning the second (6-4), Giordano needed a third set tiebreaker to win her match at third singles, eventually prevailing 12-10 in the breaker. The other five singles players won their matches in straight sets.
The Blue Knights will defend their undefeated record against Bard College on Wednesday, October 7. They will host the Raptors in a 6:30 p.m. start at Cronomer Park.
