PURCHASE, NY – The Mount Saint Mary College women's basketball team scored the first eight points of Tuesday's game against Purchase College and never looked back, cruising to an 81-52 victory over the host Panthers. The Blue Knights improved to 6-4 overall and to 3-0 in the Skyline Conference while the Panthers dropped to 7-3 overall and to 3-1 in conference play.
Junior
Chrissy Zrowka (Brick, N.J.) hit a three-pointer on the opening possession of the game for the Blue Knights and then junior
Shannon Sangster (Syracuse, N.Y.) put back an offensive rebound to give the Mount an early 5-0 lead. After four consecutive missed shots by Purchase at the other end, junior
Meredith Paggi (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) drained a three-pointer to cap a strong start for the Blue Knights.
The Panthers would get as close as four (15-11) at the 11:28 mark, but Mount Saint Mary continued to pull away with a 6-0 run and then with a 7-0 run. The Blue Knights led 43-23 at the break, due in large part to the play of junior
Catie Biordi (Beacon, N.Y.). Biordi was 5-for-6 in the first half and connected twice from three-point range for 12 first half points.
Purchase never got closer than sixteen points for the rest of the way and Mount Saint Mary led by the biggest margin of the night at the final buzzer.
Sangster finished with a game-high 19 points and also grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds. Biordi added five to her first half total and ended with 17 points. Paggi contributed 14 points and 4 rebounds for the Blue Knights.
Freshman Miranda Arthur-Smith (New York, N.Y.) was the only Panther in double-figures with 11. Junior Shayla Diaz (Beacon, N.Y.) had 9 points and 9 rebounds. Purchase shot just 30.2-percent from the field and went 2-for-15 from three-point range.
Up next for Mount Saint Mary is a date with Skyline Conference rival Farmingdale State College. The Blue Knights will host the Rams at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 10.
