NEW YORK, NY – Despite 19 points from senior
Alex Kuchar (Rutherford, N.J.), the Mount Saint Mary College men's basketball team dropped an 88-70 decision to Lehman College on Tuesday. The Blue Knights fell to 2-9 overall while the Lightning improved to 11-4.
Lehman seized a 4-0 advantage when sophomore Alain Dela Cruz (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) nailed a three-pointer at the 18:29 mark of the first half. The Lightning would push their lead to double digits when senior Duane Rhoden (Bronx, N.Y.) knocked down a triple at the 7:57 mark to make the score, 22-12. Mount Saint Mary never threatened again, trailing by double digits for the final 7:47 of the first half and for the entire second half.
Kuchar shot 7-of-15 from the floor and finished with a team-high 19 points. Sophomore
Tim Morris (Greenwich, N.Y.) had 13 points and 8 rebounds, while senior
Chris Harrison (Baldwin, N.Y.) and freshman
Carlos Valdez (Slate Hill, N.Y.) had 12 points and 10 points, respectively. Harrison and Valdez each blocked 3 shots.
Rhoden finished with a game-high 21 points for the Lightning, connecting on 7-of-12 attempts from the field and on 4-of-7 tries from behind the arc. Senior Alen Redzic (Bronx, N.Y.) tallied 16 points and 10 rebounds.
The Blue Knights return to Skyline Conference play this Wednesday when they play host to St. Joseph's College. The game is scheduled for an 8:00 p.m. tip on January 14.
