LA PLUME, PA – Picking up right where they left off a year ago, the Mount Saint Mary College women's tennis team opened the 2008 season with a 9-0 victory over Keystone College.
The Blue Knights rolled through the doubles play, picking up three easy points. Sophomore Lindsay Searle (Unionville, Conn.) and junior Rebecca Schwartz (New Windsor, N.Y.) teamed up for an 8-4 victory at first doubles. Juniors Danielle Kehoe (Goshen, N.Y.) and Caitlin Giordano (Walden, N.Y.) came through with an 8-1 win in the second slot, while freshmen Annmarie Llewellyn (Brookhaven, N.Y.) and Shakira Alston (Bronx, N.Y.) didn't drop a game at third doubles.
Searle, playing at number one singles for the first time, blitzed her opponent in a 6-1, 6-1 victory. Schwartz and Giordano allowed just one game each at second and fourth singles, respectively, while Kehoe didn't allow one in a 6-0, 6-0 blow out. Llewellyn picked up a win in her first collegiate singles match, 6-2, 6-0. And junior Laura Wolons (Middletown, N.Y.) cruised to a 6-0, 6-3 victory at sixth singles.
Mount Saint Mary will open their Skyline Conference season on Saturday as they host the Polytechnic Institute of NYU. The match is scheduled for a noon start at Cronomer Park.
