BUFFALO, NY – The Mount Saint Mary College women's soccer team experienced the difficulties of a long road trip first hand this weekend as they dropped a pair of games to Buffalo area colleges. The Blue Knights lost to Buffalo State on Saturday by a score of 4-0 and then fell to Medaille College on Sunday, 1-0.
In Saturday's contest, freshman Megan Cotta (Wall, N.J.) played very well in the first half, making nine saves and allowing just one goal to the fierce attack of Buffalo State. The Bengals continued to launch shots on net in the second half and broke through with three goals in the period. Cotta made seven more saves to finish the afternoon with sixteen.
On Sunday, Mount Saint Mary was much more evenly matched with Medaille. After a scoreless first half, the Mavericks scored in the opening five minutes of the second half and clamped down defensively to preserve a 1-0 victory. The Blue Knights managed just one shot in the last forty-five minutes and were outshot on the day by a margin of 13-7.
With their record now at 1-2, the Blue Knights return home for a date with the Albany College of Pharmacy on September 11. The game is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m.
