ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, NY – Extending their early season success into the meat of their Skyline Conference season, the Mount Saint Mary College women's tennis team edged Bard College, 5-4, in Tuesday night's match. The Blue Knights improve to 6-0 overall and to 3-0 against conference opponents. Bard dropped to 4-2 overall and 3-1 in the Skyline.
Mount Saint Mary kicked things off by winning two of the three doubles matches. Juniors
Danielle Kehoe (Goshen, N.Y.) and
Caitlin Giordano (Walden, N.Y.) took an 8-5 decision at second doubles while junior
Laura Wolons (Middletown, N.Y.) and freshman
Annmarie Llewellyn (Brookhaven, N.Y.) squeaked out an 8-6 win at third doubles.
Kehoe and Giordano eased to singles wins at third and fifth, respectively, each winning by a score of 6-3, 6-1. Junior
Rebecca Schwartz (New Windsor, N.Y.) clinched the match with a 6-3, 7-5 win at second singles, defeating Bard's number one player from a year ago. Wolons played admirably at sixth singles, losing in two close sets, 6-4, 7-5.
The schedule doesn't get any easier for the Blue Knights as they'll head to St. Joseph's College this weekend for a 1:00 p.m. start on Saturday.
