Mount Struggles on Opening Weekend

WILKES-BARRE, PA – Opening their season at the King's College Invitational, the Mount Saint Mary College women's volleyball team lost their first four matches of the season. The Blue Knights lost to King's in four sets, Marywood in four sets, Wilkes in three sets, and Misericordia in three sets.

In the opening match of the tournament, Mount Saint Mary lost to King's (15-25, 26-24, 15-25, 13-25). Junior Melissa Ribeiro (Yonkers, N.Y.) was the top performer, tallying ten kills, three digs, and three blocks. Ribeiro hit .467 and tied a career-high with her ten kills. Freshman Jackie Nadeau (Uniondale, N.Y.) had six kills and seven digs while freshman Courtney Kenney (Hicksville, N.Y.) had five kills and seven digs.

Marywood University defeated the Mount (21-25, 15-25, 25-17, 12-25) in their second match of the tournament. Kenney had six kills and seven digs while Ribeiro tallied three kills, four digs, and two blocks. Nadeau recorded seven digs and three blocks.

Continuing against the stiff competition at the tournament, the Blue Knights lost to Wilkes University (19-25, 12-25, 17-25) in straight sets. Ribeiro had six kills and four digs and Kenney had five kills and seven digs. Nadeau had two kills and three aces before suffering an ankle injury that put her out of commission for the rest of the match and tournament.

Misericordia swept away Mount Saint Mary in their final match of the tournament (15-25, 16-25, 17-25). Kenney has seven kills and eleven digs to lead the way for the Blue Knights.

After a difficult opening weekend, the Mount had more than a week off before their next scheduled match. The Blue Knights travel to the College of St. Elizabeth on Tuesday, September 9 for a 7:00 p.m. start.
