NEWBURGH, NY – The Mount Saint Mary College women's basketball team returned home from the Marymount University Invitational with a win and two losses, pushing their overall record for the season to 2-3. The Blue Knights opened the tournament with a 69-64 victory over the Catholic University of America, but lost their next two, dropping games to Gettysburg College (63-57) and Ferrum College (71-65).
Against Catholic, the Blue Knights trailed by as many as six in the first half before cutting the half time deficit to just two (22-20). The Mount ran off a 14-3 run in the opening minutes of the second half and led 36-30 with thirteen minutes to play. Then, leading 51-44 with just over six minutes to play, the Blue Knights scored fifteen of the next eighteen points pushing their advantage to 19 with just 1:38 remaining.

Catie Biordi (Beacon, N.Y.) led four Mount players in double figures with 14 points. Junior

LaSheila Augustin (Valley Stream, N.Y.), and junior
Shannon Sangster (Syracuse, N.Y.) each finished with 11 points. Augustin collected a game-high 9 rebounds for the Blue Knights, who shot better than 50-percent from the field during the game.
In the second game, Gettysburg jumped out to an 8-0 lead and dominated the rest of the first half, taking a 34-18 lead into the locker room at half time. The Mount cut into their advantage in the opening five minutes of the second half, using three three-pointers from Biordi to make the score 38-31 with fifteen minutes to play. The Blue Knights trimmed the lead to as few as three before watching the Bullets push it back to ten with five minutes remaining.
It was Biordi who started another rally for the Mount, knocking down a pair of three-pointers to make it 53-49 with 3:20 to play. Then, Sangster put home 3-of-4 attempts at the line, capping an 11-2 run that made the score 53-52 Gettysburg with exactly three minutes to play. After trading buckets and a Gettysburg miss, the Blue Knights turned the ball over on their only chance to take the lead and then could only watch as the Bullets salted away the game at the free throw line. Gettysburg was 8-for-8 from the line in the final 1:07 and escaped with a 63-57 victory.
Biordi scored a game-high 18 points, all of them coming by way of the three-pointer. The junior was 6-of-12 from behind the arc in the game. Sangster totaled 9 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
On Sunday against Ferrum College, the Blue Knights led 19-7 after the opening ten minutes only to watch the Panthers close the half on a 22-5 run that game them a 29-24 advantage. The Mount closed to two at the fifteen minute mark, but Ferrum pulled away again with an 11-0 run. After trailing by more than seven for almost eleven minutes, Mount Saint Mary moved to within three with thirty-five seconds remaining, but the Panthers nailed 5-of-6 attempts at the free throw line to make the final margin, 71-65.
Junior
Jess Tice (Altamont, N.Y.) scored a game-high 18 points for the Blue Knights who also received 16 from Zrowka, 13 from Biordi, and 10 from Augustin.
Up next for the Mount is their Skyline Conference opener against Sage. The Blue Knights will travel to the Gators on Tuesday, December 2 for a 6:00 p.m. start.
