NEWBURGH, NY – After a pair of Skyline Conference losses on Saturday, the Mount Saint Mary College women's volleyball team rebounded nicely with a sweep of Sarah Lawrence on Sunday. The Blue Knights are now 11-17 overall and own a 5-3 record against Skyline opponents.
The Mount took the first two sets against Sarah Lawrence in decisive fashion (25-14, 25-12) and then escaped with a 25-23 win in the third set. Freshman
Courtney Kenney (Hicksville, N.Y.) and freshman
Teresa Sorrentino (Bellerose, N.Y.) each finished with a team-high four kills. Senior
Amanda Perry (Norwich, N.Y.) collected a team-high eight digs and was honored before the match with a Senior Day ceremony.
On Saturday, the Blue Knights dropped a pair of matches at the Sage Colleges. Despite a team-high twenty digs from freshman
Heather Schaeffer (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.), the Mount lost in straight sets (25-17, 25-17, 25-19). Kenney had seven kills and fourteen digs while Sorrentino had five kills and thirteen digs against the Gators.
In the second match of the day, Mount Saint Mary lost in straight sets once again, this time to St. Joseph's College. The set scores were 25-17, 25-20, and 25-23. Kenney had a team-high nine kills while Sorrentino had a team-high 16 digs. Freshman Jackie Nadeau (Uniondale, N.Y.) rattled off six service aces and also threw in two kills and a block for a nice all-around day.
The Blue Knights will compete in their final regular season match this Tuesday. They host the College of Mount Saint Vincent starting at 7:00 p.m. on October 28.
