NEWBURGH, NY – Ending their bid for a second consecutive Skyline Conference title, the Mount Saint Mary College women's tennis team lost to Bard College, 6-3 in the championship match on Sunday. The Blue Knights finish the season at 12-3.

As they did in the regular season match between the two teams, Mount Saint Mary took two of the three doubles points to take a 2-1 lead into the singles play. Sophomore Lindsay Searle (Unionville, Conn.) and junior Rebecca Schwartz (New Windsor, N.Y.) pulled out an 8-4 win at first doubles while juniors Caitlin Giordano (Walden, N.Y.) and Danielle Kehoe (Goshen, N.Y.) picked up and 8-3 victory at second doubles. Junior Laura Wolons (Middletown, N.Y.) and freshman Annmarie Llewellyn (Brookhaven, N.Y.) dropped an 8-5 decision at third doubles.

The two teams split the top two spots of the singles lineup to make the score 3-2 in favor of the Mount. Searle fell 6-2, 6-1 at first singles while Schwartz cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win at second singles. The next match off was fourth singles where the Raptors took a 6-1, 6-4 decision to tie the match at three points each. Bard grabbed another point with a 6-3, 6-2 victory at the third singles position and need just one of the two remaining matches to clinch the title. The clinching point came from freshman Madeline Turner (New York, N.Y.) who prevailed (3-6, 6-4, 6-1) at sixth singles. The Raptors also took the point at fifth singles (6-4, 7-6 (4)) to make the final score 6-3.

The season concludes next weekend for Mount Saint Mary as they compete in the Skyline Conference doubles tournament on Sunday, October 26.
