Mount Swept by William Paterson

WAYNE, NJ – William Paterson freshman Megan Maher (Wood-Ridge, N.J.) posted 13 kills, 12 assists and 7 digs to lead the William Paterson volleyball team (14-5) to a 3-0 victory over visiting Mount Saint Mary (8-15).

The Pioneers jumped out to an 8-1 lead on their way to a 25-7 victory during the first set thanks to seven service aces, including three straight by senior Mailyn Rodriguez (Hackensack, N.J.). William Paterson then built a 17-9 edge during the second set, but the Blue Knights fought back to within three at 20-17. The Pioneers won five of the final six points, however, for a 25-18 win. Trailing by six, the Blue Knights rallied to pull even at 16-16 during the third set, but three kills in a row pushed William Paterson ahead 19-16, and the lead never dipped below two again as they clinched the match with a 25-18 victory.

Freshman Courtney Kenney (Hicksville, N.Y.) paced the Blue Knights with five kills. Freshman Alyssa Zmuda (Glenwood, N.J.) had a team-best six digs, and tied with junior Katie Toole (Wallkill, N.Y.) for the team lead with seven assists.

Mount Saint Mary travels to Albertus Magnus College on Sunday, October 19 for a non-conference tilt. The match is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
