Brooklyn, N.Y. - Led by 14 points from senior
Vanessa Lawson (Kingston, N.Y.) and junior
Meredith Paggi (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.), the Mount Saint Mary College women's basketball team defeated Polytechnic University, 83-29, in Skyline Conference action on Saturday. For the Blue Knights, the win was their sixth in a row as they improved to 10-1 overall and 5-0 inside the Skyline Conference. The Blue Jays dropped to 2-5 overall and 2-3 in conference play.
The Blue Knights opened the game on an eleven point run and never looked back. They led by as many as twenty-seven points in the first half before carrying a 42-16 lead into the intermission. MSMC scored sixteen of the first eighteen points in the second half and led by forty with just under fifteen minutes to play in the game.
Lawson finished 6-of-7 from the field and connected on both of her three-point attempts. She also had 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Paggi was 6-for-9 from the field and had 2 assists.
Twelve of the thirteen active players on the roster scored in the game. Senior Jackie Markert (Voorheesville, N.Y.) joined Lawson and Paggi in double figures with 13 points, as did sophomore Catie Biordi (Beacon, N.Y.), who finished with 11 points. Senior Chantel Anthony (Middletown, N.Y.) dished out 8 assists and sophomore Gianna Cesa (Hillsdale, N.J.) came off the bench to contribute 6 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 steals.
Polytechnic was led by 16 points from senior Kristen Partch (Staten Island, N.Y.). Partch also had 7 rebounds.
Up next for Mount Saint Mary is their final non-conference game of the year. The Blue Knights host Hunter College beginning at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 9 in the Kaplan Center.
