Newburgh, N.Y. - Following a defeat of Kean University in their last match at the New Paltz Invite, the Mount Saint Mary College women's volleyball team won their second straight match Thursday evening with a sweep of John Jay College.
The Blue Knights were dominant early in the match, winning the first game by a score of 30-13. John Jay pushed the Mount in games two and three, but couldn't break through in either game. MSMC took game two, 30-28, and game three, 30-27.
Senior Ashley Barnhart (Kingston, N.Y.) continued her strong season with another solid performance. She had 11 kills, 9 digs, and 4 service aces, continuing to lead the team in all three categories. Junior Amanda Carfora (Wallkill, N.Y.) contributed 9 kills, 8 digs, and 3 service aces, and trails only Barnhart in the three categories. Sophomore Sara Hanssler (West Hempstead, N.Y.) had a nice night as well, finishing with 4 kills and a 0.333 hitting percentage
Mount Saint Mary improved to 3-8 on the year, while John Jay dropped to 4-7. Up next for the Mount are Skyline Conference foes Polytechnic University and Purchase College. The Blue Knights will host both teams in a tri-match on Saturday, beginning at 11:00 a.m.
