MSMC Dominates First Half, Cruises to Victory over Purchase

Purchase, N.Y. - Led by 15 points from senior Chantel Anthony (Middletown, N.Y.), the Mount Saint Mary College women's basketball team defeated Purchase College on Saturday, 82-59, to move to 4-0 inside the Skyline Conference. The Blue Knights are 8-1 overall and sit tied atop the Skyline standings with Farmingdale State College. It was the second loss in a row for Purchase, dropping them to 3-4 overall and 1-2 inside the league.

Mount Saint Mary answered an opening basket by the Panthers with a 13-0 run and never trailed again in the game. Purchase cut the lead to six with 11:32 remaining in the first half, but back-to-back three-pointers at the other end sparked a 9-0 run. The Blue Knights carried a 49-29 lead into the intermission.

MSMC scored seven of the first ten points in the second half and never led by fewer than twenty points during the entire second stanza.

Anthony connected on 5-of-9 attempts from the field including four three-pointers and also contributed 7 rebounds. Junior Meredith Paggi (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) and sophomore Shannon Sangster (Syracuse, N.Y.) each had 11 points and sophomore Catie Biordi (Beacon, N.Y.) scored 10. Sangster was 4-of-6 from the field and 3-of-3 from the line while Biordi was 4-of-6 from the field and connected on both of her attempts from three-point land.

Junior Jennifer Danio (Staten Island, N.Y.) led the Panthers with 13 points. In addition to 12 points, junior Jennifer Ciardulli (Centereach, N.Y.) tallied 7 assists and 6 rebounds.

The Blue Knights have more than a week off before their last game of the semester. They take on the University of Scranton on Monday, December 17 beginning at 6:00 p.m. Mount Saint Mary knocked off Scranton last season when the Royals were the top-ranked team in the nation.
