MSMC Grinds Out Win Over Yeshiva

New York, N.Y. - Tied for the twelfth time in the game, 46-46 with 6:18 to play, Mount Saint Mary College junior Alex Kuchar (Rutherford, N.J.) hit a three-pointer that gave the Blue Knights the lead for good as they defeated Yeshiva University in Skyline Conference action, 64-58. MSMC evened their record at 3-3 while moving to 2-1 inside the conference. Yeshiva fell to 3-4 overall and 2-2 in league play.

After a three-pointer from freshman Daniel Somech (Jerusalem, Israel) brought the Maccabees back within one, the Blue Knights scored seven of the next eight points, including a second straight three-pointer and two free throws from Kuchar, to take a 58-51 lead. Yeshiva would cut the margin back to two with a minute to play, but the Blue Knights closed the door by hitting six of eight free throws down the stretch.

Kuchar played every minute for the Blue Knights and finished with a game-high 23 points. Freshman Matt Weinberger (Washingtonville, N.Y.) was the only other Mount player in double-figures, tallying 10 points to go along with 9 rebounds. Freshman Scott Henderson (Baldwin, N.Y.) played well once again, concluding the night with 9 points and 7 rebounds.
