On the mound, he compiled a 22-12 record with a 2.57 ERA and 173 strikeouts over 262.2 innings, setting program standards for wins, ERA, and innings pitched. His standout career earned him Skyline Conference Rookie and Pitcher of the Year honors in 1999, another Pitcher of the Year award in 2000, and back-to-back Skyline Player of the Year accolades in 2001 and 2002. In 2002, he was named First Team All-New York Region, and he was inducted into the Mount Saint Mary Hall of Fame’s inaugural class in 2012.
Purcell brings extensive coaching experience across multiple levels of baseball. He spent the 2022 season leading the Newburgh Free Academy modified program and previously served nine seasons (2010–18) as an assistant coach at Mount Saint Mary. His résumé also includes six years as an assistant varsity coach at Valley Central, his alma mater, and more than a decade as head coach of the Taconic Rangers of the HVCBL. He continues to compete as a player with the New York Mariners of the Dutchess County MSBL.
