Mount Saint Mary College has announced the appointment of
Jessica Mushel to the position of Director of Athletics. Mushel, who has served as the department's Assistant Athletic Director and Senior Woman Administrator since July 2015, takes over for Dan Twomey who announced his retirement effective July 1.
Mushel has been tasked with numerous administrative duties in the department since joining the staff as the Assistant to the Athletic Director in 2014. She has handled scheduling, staffing events, supervising game management and teaming with Twomey in matters specific to the Skyline Conference.
"I am honored and humbled to take on this new challenge as Director of Athletics at Mount Saint Mary College. The Athletic Department is full of dedicated and passionate student-athletes, coaches and staff and I look forward to continue working with each and every one of them. My hope is that we can build upon our successes as well as grow and improve in the competitive field of collegiate athletics, " stated Mushel upon her appointment.
While serving in an administrative role, Mushel has also guided the Mount Saint Mary Softball program to unprecedented success in her four years at the helm. The Knights have won two straight conference championships, made two straight appearances in the NCAA Tournament and won the program's first ever NCAA game in 2016. She has been named the Skyline Conference's Coach of the Year each of the last three seasons.
Mushel takes over a department that finished second in the Skyline Conference Presidents Cup standings in 2016-17 and one that has put an emphasis on community service. The department earned a Jostens Community Service Award from the National Association of Division III Administrators for its Bonnie Boxes project during the 2014-15 academic year.
Mushel is a 2010 graduate of Siena College, cum laude, with a degree in history and went on to complete her Master's Degree in literacy from Mount Saint Mary in 2012. Mushel was a four year member of the Siena Softball team, playing in 130 career games.
A native of Hyde Park, N.Y., and member of the Franklin D. Roosevelt High School Hall of Fame, Mushel currently resides in Newburgh.
