Softball Takes Both Games From Purchase College

NEWBURGH, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College softball team takes both games from Purchase College in its home doubleheader.

Rapid Recap
Mount Saint Mary looked to get back into the win column against Purchase College in a weekday doubleheader. The Knights got off to a hot start in the 1st inning, beginning with a two-out single from Chloe Graham. The Mount would record four straight hits with two outs, including a double from Grace MacDonald, an RBI single from Grace Terpening, and a two RBI single from Samantha Stallone. The bats would go quiet for a while for the Knights, as Purchase began to chip away at their lead with a run in the top of the 3rd to make it 3-1.

The Panthers would tie the game up in the top of the 4th with a couple of runs to make it 3-3. It wouldn't take long for Mount Saint Mary to respond, as Angela Christopher singled to center field to score Samantha Stallone to take a 4-3 lead. The Knights would take advantage of some Purchase miscues in the bottom half of the 5th. After a leadoff single from Dana Donnelly, the Mount would walk four times in the inning, allowing them to add to their lead and make it 7-3. Grace MacDonald continues to be a force on the mound for the Knights this season, recording 10 strikeouts in a complete game. Dana Donnelly led off the bottom of the 6th with a double, as Grace Terpening scored her with an RBI triple to add an insurance run. Mount Saint Mary would win game one over the Panthers by the final score of 8-3

Rapid Recap
The Knights looked to sweep the Panthers with a win in game two, as Grace MacDonald took the mound in back-to-back games. Two straight singles from Autumn Strobach and Dana Donnelly put runners on first and second with no outs, but the Mount was unable to take advantage. The Knights were able to break the scoreless tie with a big inning in the bottom of the 3rd. Angela Christopher would lead off the inning with a triple to right field, followed by RBI singles from Grace MacDonald and Grace Terpening to give them a 4-0 lead.

MacDonald dominated on the mound for Mount Saint Mary yet again, performing even better in game two after throwing 131 pitches in game one. She would not only throw a scoreless complete game, but also did not walk a single batter to go along with five strikeouts. Grace Terpening singled to lead off the bottom of the 5th as part of her three-hit, three-RBI day. Angela Christopher would score Terpening with an RBI single to left field later in the inning to extend their lead to 5-0. The Knights would walk it off in the bottom of the 6th with a bases-clearing two-RBI triple from Terpeing, followed by an RBI single from Allie Kenney to reach the eight-run mercy rule after five innings as Mount Saint Mary defeated Purchase 8-0.
