Katie Munks Hired as New Head Cross Country and Track & Field Coach

NEWBURGH, N.Y. – Mount Saint Mary College Director of Athletics Sam Howe has announced the hiring of Katie Munks as the next head coach of the Mount Saint Mary College cross country and track and field programs.

Munks is a 2020 graduate of The Pennsylvania State University, earning her degree in Applied Exercise Health and Kinesiology. A standout distance runner for the Nittany Lions, she competed at the NCAA Division I level in both cross country and track & field and served as a two-year team captain.

Following her collegiate career, Munks raced professionally from 2021–2024 as a member of the Hansons Brooks Original Distance Project, which is sponsored by Brooks. During her time with the program, she was active in community outreach, volunteered at high school cross country camps and races, and played a role in recruiting and mentoring new members of the team.

Former Head Coach Lorne Marcus has decided to step down after being at the helm of the cross country and track & field programs for the last two seasons.

"We thank Lorne for his time and contributions to our department and wish him the best in this next step of his professional career. We are excited to announce that Kathryn Munks, our assistant coach, has agreed to take on the Interim Head Track and Field Coach title for the Outdoor Track and Field season," said Athletic Director Samantha Howe.
