NEWBURGH, NY – The Mount Saint Mary College Softball team (3-13) hosted the SUNY New Paltz Hawks (18-4) in a non-conference doubleheader on a beautiful Sunday afternoon at Kaplan field. The games were tightly contested, with the Knights earning a hard-fought split.
Game 1: Late Inning Surge By Knights
The Hawks jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the first inning sparked by a three-run double. New Paltz continued to put pressure on the Knights tacking on two more in the third, extending their lead to 6-0. The Knights were held scoreless through the first six innings but a two-RBI double in the bottom of the 7th from
Chloe Graham and an RBI single from
Kristen Tellier gave some life to the Mount's offense. The Hawks ultimately held on for a 7-3 victory in game one.

Grace MacDonald took the loss for MSMC scattering 13 hits and allowing 7 runs over 7 innings pitched.
• Mount Saint Mary's
Chloe Graham led the offensive attack in game one collecting a double and 2 RBIs.
Game 2: Bats Cooled Down After One
The start of the second game looked like the late surge from the first game was going to carry over and help the Knights battle back and take game 2. The Hawks scored in the first and the Knights answered right back. A scoreless second thanks to great pitching and defensive play but
Bridget Morris and her team behind her. But the third inning began the troubles for the Mount. Giving up 5 unanswered runs before the Knights fought back in the 5th inning to get one on the board. But the 6th inning was the final straw, giving up 6 runs and unable to find the same late game energy from game 1
Key Stats - Game 2:
