Newburgh, NY- The Mount Saint Mary athletics department is proud to announce our Knights of the Month for March 2024! These four student-athletes have exemplified excellence on and off the field earning them recognition from the department staff.

Tyler Van De Bogart has been a force at the plate for the Mount baseball team this March. The junior first baseman has settled himself into a very comfortable position of the team's leading hitter. Â At the plate, Tyler currently is hitting .333 on the season, 13 RBI's and scored 12 runs. Â In the Skyline Conference Tyler is 6th for OPS, 7th in runs, and 6th in RBI's. Â Defensively Tyler is ranked 10th in Chances, and 9th in putouts. Tyler's best game this past month was against Yeshiva. Â He went 3 for 4 at the plate, scored 4 runs, had 6 RBI's, and was a triple away from the cycle. The Skyline also recognized Tyler twice during the month by listing him on the weekly offensive player Honor Roll. Â Coach Purcell had this to say about Van De Bogart continuing his dominance as the Knights head deeper into their season.
"Tyler has been one of our most consistent hitters in our lineup so far. Â He has done a nice job of making hard contact and driving in runs. Â He is a great teammate and the full roster looks up to him"
Senior leader
Sofia Gannon has been a key contributor to the Mount Saint Mary Softball team's success in March. Her numbers are staggering, 11 for 27 at the plate, 5 runs, 4 RBI's, 4 BB's. Â Gannon's bat has been on fire, leading the team with a .407 batting average. Sofia's best game this month was against Yeshiva, where she went 3 for 3 with 3 runs, 1 RBI, 1 BB, and a double. Â Sofia was named to the Skyline conference weekly award winner's honor roll once during the month. Â Currently ranked 16th in the conference in batting average, 21st in OPS, and 19th in hits. Â Defensively Sofia is 2nd in batters caught stealing, 7th in chances, and 8th in putouts. Gannon's leadership and all-around play have been instrumental in the Knights' strong start to the season.
Coach Howe proudly had this to say of Sofia, "Sofia, was a standout during our games in Florida. Â She led the team in offensive numbers while playing both left field and catcher. Â In 10 games she played all but two innings. Â We are excited to see her excel the rest of her senior season."Â
Sophomore Goalie
Kenny Leen has been a goal stopping machine for the Mount Saint Mary College Men's Lacrosse team this March. Leen racked up an impressive 74 saves, facing 234 shots. Kenny has been the consistent presence for the defense giving his team a constant confidence that he will keep them in the game. His ability to quickly transition the team from defense to offense makes him a one of the biggest threats on the field. Â The biggest game for Kenny this month was against Hartwick College, where Kenny saw a staggering 62 shots, and made 21 saves, giving him a save percentage .583% for the game. Â Kenny is currently ranked 2nd in the Skyline Conference for Goals against average, first in save percentage and 2nd in saves per game. Â The Skyline Conference also recognized Kenny four times over the month on the weekly honor roll for defensive player of the week.Â
Coach Lorenzo had this to say about Kenny, "Kenny has been a brick wall in net for us and continues to get better. Â He is consistent and makes very few mistakes. Â He truly exemplifies what is means to be a Knights."
Fifth year attacker
Victoria Ward has been an offensive powerhouse for the MSMC Women's Lacrosse team this March. It's very difficult to know where to start with listing what Victoria did during the month of March, career records, Skyline Awards, statistics. In the six games during the month, Ward, started and played every game, she scored 23 goals, 4 assists, won 33 draw controls, 11 ground balls, 3 caused turn overs and has a staggering 73% shots on goal. Â She was named Skyline Conference Offensive Player of the week for March 11th. Â She is ranked second in the conference for goals per game, points per game, and shots per game. Â Additionally, she is ranked 3rd for draw controls per game. Â Victoria broke 100 career goals this month and 150 career points. Â She is third in program history for points, and third for goals scored and has taken the number 1 spot for career assists.
Coach Lowell had this to say about Victoria's departmental recognition "Victoria helped lead our team to a very successful March. Â In the month of March she had 23 goals and 27 points including the game winning goal in overtime against conference rival Mount Saint Vincent. Â She also had 11 ground balls and 39 draw controls. Â Off the field she continues to excel in the Nursing program and be a leader in our program.
