The Mount Battled Hard Against New Paltz Hawks in Home Opener

Newburgh, NY- The Mount Saint Mary College Knights fell to the New Paltz Hawks 21-2 in their season home opener on a rainy and foggy Saturday afternoon at Kaplan Field. Despite a valiant effort, the Knights were unable to overcome a slow start and a high-powered New Paltz offense.

While the first three quarters of the game were controlled by New Paltz, the Knights showed resilience in the fourth quarter. Shannon McGowan and Victoria Ward each found the back of the net for the Knights, while the duo of Liz Petrellese (12) and Peytpon Curley (3) combined for 15 saves for the Knights.

Head Coach Mike Lowell Addresses the Team:

Following the game, Head Coach Mike Lowell acknowledged the tough loss but expressed confidence in his team's ability to rebound. "Tough game today," he said. "We came out flat. This is on me. We will regroup and build from this experience. This team will rebound. This game was not indicative of who we are as a team. Even in this game we found building blocks for each team member and we will go from there."

Individual Knight Statistics Shine:

Despite the team's defeat, several Knights had strong individual performances. Delisianna Naccarato and Victoria Ward led the team on the field in ground balls with 3 a piece, while Shannon McGowan led the team in shots (5). Goalie Liz Petrellese made 12 saves in net for the Knights.

Looking Ahead:

The Knights will look to bounce back from this loss when they travel to Bard College for a game on Monday, March 4th, at 6:00 pm.
