Knights Drop 22 Goals On Roadrunners

Newburgh, NY- The Mount Saint Mary College Knights (4-2) controlled the game from start to finish, defeating Ramapo College (2-3) by a score of 22-16 on Saturday afternoon at Kaplan Field.

Head Coach Mike Lowell was proud of his team's performance. "Great game for our Knights," he said. "We played to our game plan and everyone contributed to this win. Ramapo kept testing us and never let us rest. We played well at both ends of the field and kept control. Very proud of our team."

The Knights were led by an offensive explosion from Victoria Ward, who tallied a game-high eight goals. Shannon McGowan added four goals and six assists, while Erica Schmidgall chipped in with five goals and two assists. Karlie Ferrucci had a well-rounded performance with two goals, two assists, three caused turnovers and four ground balls.

Defensively, the Knights were anchored by the strong goaltending of Liz Petrellese, who made eight saves. The Knights also forced 17 Ramapo turnovers and collected 20 ground balls.

How the Game Unfolded

The Knights jumped out to an early lead in the first half, outscoring Ramapo 11-8. Schmidgall led the way with five goals in the first half, while McGowan and Ferrucci each added two goals.
Ramapo tried to fight back in the second half, but the Knights held them off. Ward added five more goals in the second half, and McGowan had two goals and two assists.  Overall the Knights had 7 different goal scorers on the day.  The Knights defense only gave up two free position shots and were successful on 13 of their 15 clear attempts.  Shout out to the unsung workers in the back:  Maggie Horan, Briana Fassett, Alyssa Alvarez and the middies in front of them, Ella Garner, Shannon McGowan, Delisianna Naccarato, and Kate Crooker.
