Tunkhannock, PA- The Women's Golf season got under way today as the team traveled to Pennsylvania to take on both Marywood University and Wilkes University for their first match of the season. Blessed by some great weather, the team hit the links and much like the men's golf team, made a little history of their own.
Kaylee Poppo a Freshman from Levittown, NY is the first, for Mount Saint Mary, to win Medalist Honors in their first collegiate start, as well as, the first in program history to finish with medalist honors. But the success of the day did not end there. As a team, each member shot for a combined lowest score in program history, and each of the 4 golfers shot a career best.
Coach Crane excitedly said after the match, "I'm so proud of our girls. They fought so hard today. We have made such great strides forward as a program. We had four career best scores and a program best team score, not much more you can ask for as a coach."
He went on to say, "We may have been a little short of the scoreboard today but we are a long way forward from this time last year"
The team will be in action again tomorrow as they play in the Mount Saint Mary College Skyline Invitational at Powell Country Club at 11am.
