Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Lacrosse team will make its first appearance in the Skyline Conference Championship since 2018 Tuesday night when it travels to third-seeded Farmingdale State. The First Round game with the Rams is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. with Live Stats and Video provided for those unable to attend.
At A Glance: Mount Saint Mary posted an 11-2 home victory over Old Westbury on Saturday to clinch its spot in the conference championship tournament and enters Tuesday's contest at 6-10 overall.
The Mount Saint Mary offensive attack is led by
Victoria Ward (Oceanside, N.Y.) who sits atop the team leaderboard in goals (39), assists (20) and points (59) while ranking second on the team with 45 draw controls. Ward enters the conference championship ranked 12
th in the league in goals per game (2.44) and points per game (3.69) and 13
th in assists per game (1.25).
Karlie Ferrucci (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) has put together a strong sophomore season for the Knights, leading the team in draw controls with 55 while ranking third on the team in groundballs with 32. Ferrucci supports the offensive attack for the Mount with 28 goals and 39 points while adding 16 caused turnovers. Ferrucci begins play on Tuesday ranked 11
th in the conference in draw controls per game with 3.44.
Erica Schmidgall (North Massapequa, N.Y.) ranks second on the team with 14 assists and chips in 18 goals for 32 points through the regular season. A pair of freshmen in
Antonia Licardi (Pine Bush, N.Y.) and
Shannon McGowan (Farmingdale, N.Y.) check in with 15 and 12 goals, respectively, with Licardi adding 12 groundballs and eight caused turnovers.
Carolyn Del Debbio (Southington, Conn.) has won 18 draw controls, caused nine turnovers and scooped 12 groundballs to date for the Knights while chipping in eight points on offense.
Ella Garner (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) has contributed nine points for the Mount, including six goals, and gathered 14 groundballs and forced eight turnovers.
Kate Crooker (Boonton, N.J.) and
Maggie Horan (Stony Point, N.Y.) anchor the defense for the Mount with Crooker leading the team with 27 caused turnovers while ranking second on the team with 25 groundballs. Crooker adds 25 draw controls for the Knights while scoring seven times and producing 12 points. Horan ranks second on the team in forced miscues with 19 and adds 28 groundballs and a pair of draw controls.
Liz Petrellese (Levittown, N.Y.) has put together a strong season in goal for the Knights, making 163 saves while posting a .438 save percentage and a 13.19 goals against average to go along with a team-high 44 groundballs. Petrellese has turned aside at least 10 shots in a game on nine occasions and enters Tuesday's tilt ranked first in the conference in total saves, fourth in saves per game (10.19), eighth in save percentage and 10
th in goals against average.
Scouting Farmingdale State: The Rams earned the third seed in the conference championship after posting a 7-9 overall record and a 5-3 mark against league rivals. Farmingdale State topped Manhattanville 13-4 in the regular season finale on Saturday and enters the championship with two wins in its last three outings.
Athena Vogiatzis paces the Rams with 38 goals to date to go along with 40 points with Marina Zumbrunn adding 21 goals and 27 points. Ashley Codispoti and Megan Diamond have each scored 20 goals for the Rams, with Diamond leading the team with 41 points and 53 draw controls.
Anna Hughes has handed out a team-high 30 assists on the year for the Rams, ranking third in the league in assists per game, and checks in with 40 points. Celina Schenk paces the squad with 24 caused turnovers to go along with 27 groundballs with Kailee Coppola totaling a team-high 29 groundballs while adding 11 forced turnovers and 19 draw controls.
Ronnie Reilly has played 855:19 of a possible 975:19 in goal for the Rams through 16 regular season games and has posted 159 saves, a .515 save percentage and a 10.52 goals against average. Reilly sits just behind Petrellese in the conference rankings in total saves and sits third in saves per game (10.60), sixth in save percentage and goals against average.
Regular Season Meeting: The Knights and Rams met at Farmingdale State on April 12 with the Knights dropping a hard fought 11-6 decision. The Rams held a slim 3-2 advantage at halftime before outscoring the Knights 8-4 after the intermission.
Ward led the Mount with six points in the game, including the 100
th of her career, scoring four times and assisting on two goals. Ferrucci scored a goal and posted a career-high nine draw controls with Licardi adding the other goal for the Mount.
Sinead Henry (Pearl River, N.Y.) caused a turnover and collected three groundballs with Petrellese turning aside 11 shots in goal and leading the Mount with five groundballs.
Molly Espey led the way for Farmingdale State with four goals and four groundballs with Hughes netting a hat trick. Diamond finished the victory for the Rams with thee points and a team-high three draw controls.
Reilly made 13 saves in goal for Farmingdale State to earn the victory.
Recent History: Including the April 12 decision, Farmingdale State has been victorious in each of the 17 all-time meetings between the two teams since 2010.
Recent Skyline Conference Championship History: The Knights will make their eighth appearance in the Skyline Conference Championship in program history on Tuesday and will square-off with the Rams for the fifth time in the conference championship.
The Knights are 1-7 all-time in the conference championship with their victory coming in 2017 in the First Round against Sage.
The Knights are 0-4 all-time against Farmingdale State in the conference championship, including a loss in the Semifinal Round in 2017.
