Softball’s Busy Week Opens Monday At Mount Saint Vincent

Knights to play eight times this week

Newburgh, N.Y. – Due to Sunday's rain out, the Mount Saint Mary College Softball team will be in action eight times this week starting with a Skyline Conference set at the College of Mount Saint Vincent Monday afternoon. The Knights will take to the road and play at William Paterson on Thursday before welcoming Sarah Lawrence and Farmingdale State to Newburgh over the weekend.
 
At A Glance: The Knights are coming off a doubleheader split at Old Westbury on Saturday and begin play with the Dolphins on Monday at 12-14 overall and 5-3 in Skyline Conference play.
 
Kaeli McAnally (Bay Shore, N.Y.) is hitting .297 on the season in 21 games played and has scored 13 runs, while Samantha Bendig (Tampa, Fla.) checks in with a .296 average covering 71 at-bats. Bendig leads the Knights with 11 RBI, adding five doubles and five runs scored.
 
Olivia Ferara (Middletown, N.Y.) has clubbed a team-high two home runs and paces the team with 17 runs scored to go along with nine RBI. Ferara is hitting .287 on the season, adding five doubles and 13 walks. Laura Dentato (Farmingdale, N.Y.) leads the Mount with six doubles and chips in 15 runs scored and 10 RBI.
 
Bridget Morris (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) leads the pitching staff with a 3.36 earned run average in 14 appearances and holds a 7-6 record. Morris has worked a team-high 83.1 innings and struck out 95 opposing batters.
 
Grace MacDonald (Concord, N.H.) has won five games in the circle for the Mount and has a 3.86 earned run average over 74.1 innings of work. MacDonald has worked two shutouts and fanned 47 batters over 15 appearances.
 
A Look At The Dolphins: Mount Saint Vincent had an eight-game winning streak stopped with a doubleheader loss at Farmingdale State on Saturday and begins play Monday at 17-8 overall and 6-2 in conference play.
 
Jocelyn Vega is in the midst of a big offensive season for the Dolphins, hitting .479 with 34 hits, eight doubles, a pair of triples, four home runs 24 runs scored and 27 RBI. Vega is tied for third in the conference in hits and runs scored and ranks second in the league in RBI.
 
Simone Caruso supports the offensive attack with a .367 batting average, adding 12 runs scored and 16 RBI.
 
Charlotte Kelly is working to a team best 1.19 earned run average over 29.1 innings with Serena Duran posting a 2.26 ERA and a 4-1 record in 34.0 frames. Savannah Autobee has worked a 46.1 innings and fanned 38 hitters covering 11 appearances.
 
Recent History: Mount Saint Mary has dominated the head-to-head series with Mount Saint Vincent, winning 26 of the previous 29 meetings since the start of the 2008 season. The Knights have won eight straight in the series and 16 of the last 17.
 
Scouting The Pioneers: William Paterson plays an NJAC twin bill with Kean on Tuesday and will start the day with a 20-11-1 overall record. The Pioneers have dropped their last four decisions, including a pair of shutout losses to Stockton on Saturday.
 
Jasmine Vera and Carly McDaniel are tied for the team lead in hits with 35 with Vera pacing the Pioneers with a .385 average to go along with 21 runs, 15 RBI and 19 stolen bases. McDaniel is hitting .376 and leads the team with 23 RBI on the strength of seven doubles, three triples and a pair of home runs.
 
Haley Weinberger checks in with a .348 batting average with 13 runs and 12 RBI while Kylie Bythrow hits .310 with 10 runs and 11 driven in. Jillian Bigos leads the way with 22 runs scored and adds 20 RBI on the strength of five doubles, three triples and a pair of round trippers.
 
Jaelynn Miller has worked a team-high 87.2 innings in the circle for William Paterson and holds a 9-5 record and a 1.76 earned run average while allowing opponents just a .207 batting average. Lilah Guthy works to a 1.27 ERA over 55.0 innings and has won seven games.
 
Recent History: Thursday's twin bill will be the first meeting on record between the Knights and the Pioneers.
 
Scouting Sarah Lawrence: The Gryphons enter a Tuesday set at league rival Manhattanville with a 2-10 overall record and a 2-6 mark in Skyline Conference play. Sarah Lawrence was shutout twice against Brooklyn College in its last outing on April 21.
 
Kristin Vargas leads the offense for Sarah Lawrence with a .308 batting average, ripping four doubles while scoring eight times and driving in four runs. Sophie Grenke has driven in a team-high seven runs and has laced a pair of triples.
 
Shirin Pechefsky has won a game in the circle and fanned 37 hitters in a team-high 39.2 innings of work.
 
Recent History: Since 2013, the Knights and Gryphons have met 15 times prior to Saturday with the Mount holding a commanding 14-1 edge in the head-to-head series.
 
Gauging Farmingdale State: The defending Skyline Conference Champions head to Purchase on Saturday winners of 13 straight games and with a 17-8 overall record and a 9-1 mark against league rivals.
 
Priscilla Rivera is hitting .448 for the Rams with 23 runs scored and seven RBI, while Jenna Giliberti bats .430 with a team-high 31 runs scored to go along with 15 RBI.
 
Samantha Stolfi leads the way with 32 RBI and is hitting .376  while Brooke Walker has scored 20 runs, driving in 18 and is hitting .301.
 
Ava Shorr has won nine games in the circle and holds a .313 ERA over 78.1 innings. Allie Stanya is 8-4 on the season in a team-high 80.2 innings, fanning 74 hitters and working to a 3.12 ERA.
 
Recent History: The long time Skyline Conference rivals have met 38 times prior to Sunday with the Rams holding a 24-14 record in the head-to-head series. Farmingdale State has won each of the last four matchups, including a pair of shutout victories at home in 2022.
 
What's Next: The Knights close out the regular season with visits to Purchase on May 6 and Yeshiva on May 7.
