Knights Rally For Game Two Victory Against Mount Saint Vincent

MacDonald earns win, drives in two in victory

Purchase, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Softball team earned a split with league rival the College of Mount Saint Vincent Monday afternoon, falling in the opener 3-1 in nine innings before rebounding for a 7-2 game two victory. Grace MacDonald (Concord, N.H.) earned the game two win in the circle and drove in two runs for the Knights.
 
Monday's split moves Mount Saint Mary to 13-15 overall on the season and 6-4 against Skyline rivals, while Mount Saint Vincent stands at 18-9 overall and 7-3 in league play.

How It Happened
  • The Dolphins got on the board early with an unearned run in the home half of the first.
  • After Nichole Reyes led of the frame with a walk and moved to second on a wild pitch, she crossed with the game's first run following a one-out error.
  • The one-run lead stood until the top of the seventh when the Mount got even at 1-1.
  • Mount Saint Mary put runners on second and third following an error and a one-out single from Jenna Cedeno (Staten Island, N.Y.) who moved to second on the throw.
  • Rory Littman (Rancho Cordova, Calif.) crossed with the equalizing run on a groundout off the bat of Sofia Gannon (East Patchogue, N.Y.).
  • Neither team would score until the bottom of the ninth when Mount Saint Vincent got a leadoff single from Jocelyn Vega and Katie Hutter clubbed a two-run walk off home run to give the Dolphins the game one victory.
 
For The Knights
  • Littman finished the opener 1-for-4 with the team's only run scored.
  • Cedeno went 1-for-4.
  • Laura Dentato (Farmingdale, N.Y.) wrapped up game one 2-for-3.
  • Gannon drove in the team's lone run.
  • Bridget Morris (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) suffered the tough luck loss, working 8.0 innings and striking out 10.
 
Game 2: Mount Saint Mary 7 – Mount Saint Vincent 2
How It Happened
  • Mount Saint Vincent jumped out to an early lead again in game two, getting the opening run on a sacrifice fly from Hutter.
  • The Knights got even in the top of the second after Cedeno laced a lead-off double and a single from Dentato put runners at the corners.
  • After Dana Donnelly (Yulan, N.Y.) walked to load the bases, Kaeli McAnally (Bay Shore, N.Y.) drove in the tying run with a two-out infield single.
  • Mount Saint Vincent moved back in front 2-1 in the third on a two-out run scoring single from Vega.
  • Trailing 2-1, Mount Saint Mary erupted for six runs in the fifth to surge in front by the final 7-2 score.
  • A leadoff walk from Gannon and double from Cedeno set up the inning ahead of a two-run doubled off the bat of MacDonald.
  • Littman added a two-out, two-run single that delivered McAnally and Donnelly to close out the scoring in the inning.
 
For The Knights
  • Cedeno wrapped up game two 2-for-4 with two doubles and two runs scored.
  • Dentato collected two more hits and scored a run.
  • MacDonald went 2-for-4 at the plate with a double and two RBI.
  • McAnally continued her strong play with two more hits, a run and an RBI.
  • Gannon went 1-for-2 with two walks and a run scored.
  • MacDonald picked up the win in the circle, firing a complete game, allowing just one earned run on five hits. She fanned eight and did not walk a batter.

  • Mount Saint Mary travels to William Paterson for a non-conference doubleheader with the Pioneers on Thursday.
