Patchogue, N.Y. – Behind two strong pitching performances from
Bridget Morris (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) and
Grace MacDonald (Concord, N.H.), the Mount Saint Mary College Softball team earned 11-2 and 7-0 victories at St. Joseph's-L.I. Sunday afternoon. Morris allowed one earned run in the opener and MacDonald worked her second shutout of the season to complete the sweep.
Sunday's victories move Mount Saint Mary to 7-9 overall on the season and to 2-0 in conference action while St. Joseph's-L.I. slips to 1-9 overall and 2-0 in Skyline Conference play.
Game 1: Mount Saint Mary 11 – St. Joseph's-L.I. 2 (F/5)
How It Happened
- Mount Saint Mary got on the board in the first inning when Olivia Ferara (Middletown, N.Y.) scored on an error for the early 1-0 lead.
- Clinging to a 1-0 lead, the Knights erupted for eight runs in the top of the fourth inning to surge in front 9-0.
- The Knights strung together four hits in the inning and took advantage of four walks and an error.
- Ferara delivered the inning's first run with an RBI walk with no one out in the inning.
- Laura Dentato (Farmingdale, N.Y.) and Kaeli McAnally (Bay Shore, N.Y.) also drove in runs with free passes in the inning with Riley Norwood (East Haven, Conn.) and Alicia Killeen (Nesconset, N.Y.) producing run scoring singles.
- After the Golden Eagles got two runs back in the home half of the fourth to slice the deficit to 9-2, the Knights put two more runs on the board in the fifth to close out the scoring in the game.
- Killeen drove in her second run with a single and Paige Shrimpton (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) used forced home a run with a sacrifice fly.
- Morris retired the side in order in the bottom of the fifth to close out the victory.
For The Knights
- Ferara finished the opener 1-for-2 with two runs, two RBI and a pair of walks.
- Killeen went 2-for-4 with a run and two RBI.
- Shrimpton went 2-for-2 with a walk, run scored and RBI.
- Sofia Gannon (East Patchogue, N.Y.), Norwood and McAnally each posted a hit and a run scored.
- Morris moved to 4-4 on the season after working her third complete game of the season. She surrendered a single earned run on two hits while striking out seven.
Game 2: Mount Saint Mary 7 – St. Joseph's-L.I. 0
How It Happened
- The Knights broke a scoreless tie in the third when Dentato scored following a two-out error.
- The Knights expanded their lead to 3-0 in the fifth inning and tacked on three more tallies in the sixth to open a 6-0 advantage.
- Killen drove in both runs in the fifth with a two-out single that delivered Norwood and MacDonald.
- In the sixth, Jenna Cedeno (Staten Island, N.Y.) singled home McAnally and Sophia Reed (Rockaway, N.J.) drove home a run with a sacrifice fly and Dentato crossed on an error.
- Mount Saint Mary closed out the scoring in the game with a single run that came home on an RBI double off the bat of McAnally.

- Reed closed out game two 2-for 3 with an RBI.
- McAnally went 2-for-3 with a double, walk, runs scored and RBI.
- Norwood scored two runs and drove in a run.
- Ferara doubled, drew a walk and scored a run.

- MacDonald moved to 3-5 on the season with the complete game effort. MacDonald allowed eight hits, seven singles, in the shutout. She struck out six and walked two batters.
