Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Tennis team picked up its first win of the season Monday night when it battled to a 5-4 victory over conference rival Sarah Lawrence. The Knights secured the win with victories against the Gryphons at the fourth, fifth and sixth singles positions.
After dropping two of the three doubles matches to the Gryphons, the Mount won half of the singles competitions to pick up its first victory since topping Western Connecticut on April 17, 2019.
Patrick Shea (Warwick, N.Y.) dispatched his opponent at sixth singles 6-0, 6-0 before
Carly Green (Holbrook, N.Y.) earned a 6-1, 6-4 victory for the Knights at the fourth slot.
Julia Flynn (Naugatuck, Conn.) clinched the victory for the Knights on Monday after battling to a 5-7, 7-5, 6-2 triumph at fifth singles.
In doubles play, the third pair of Shea and
Corey Sowers (Marlboro, N.Y.) earned an impressive 8-1 victory for the Mount to claim one of the three doubles matches.
At 1-3 overall on the season and 1-2 in conference play, Mount Saint Mary returns to action on Tuesday afternoon when it travels to the United States Merchant Marine Academy. Matches with the Mariners are scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m.
