Newburgh, N.Y. – After opening the season at home for first time since 2019, the Mount Saint Mary College Women's Lacrosse team hits the road for the first time this season Saturday when it travels to Keuka. Opening Draw with the Wolves is now scheduled for 3:00 p.m. with Live Stats and Video available for those unable to attend.
At A Glance: The Knights opened the season on February 25 with a hard fought 10-8 non-conference loss to visiting Wilkes. The loss dropped the Mount to 0-1 overall while Wilkes evened its overall record at 1-1.
Antonia Licardi (Pine Bush, N.Y.) opened her collegiate career in strong fashion for the Mount, posting five points on the strength of two goals and three assists. Licardi closed out a strong debut with a groundball and a draw control.
Victoria Ward (Oceanside, N.Y.) tallied a hat trick and produced four points to go along with two groundballs, a caused turnover and four draw controls.
Karlie Ferrucci (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) joined Ward with a team-high four draw controls, adding two goals and two groundballs.
Erica Schmidgall (North Massapequa, N.Y.) rounded out the opener with a goal and an assist for the Knights.
Maggie Horan (Stony Point, N.Y.) led the Mount with four groundballs against Wilkes, chipping in a caused turnover and a draw control.
Briana Fassett (New Milford, Conn.), also making her collegiate debut, collected three groundballs and caused two turnovers, while
Kate Crooker (Boonton, N.J.) led the team with three forced miscues.
Liz Petrellese (Levittown, N.Y.) was busy in goal, turning aside 14 Colonel shots to go along with one groundball.
Previewing Keuka: The Wolves begin their 2023 season on Saturday and are coming off a 2022 season that saw them post a 3-9 overall record and an 0-6 mark in Empire 8 play.
Keuka returns a pair of 20-goal scorers from last season's squad in Sadie Bonetti and Trinity Burton. Bonetti led the team with 22 goals and added 16 assists for a team-high 28 points, while Burton potted 20 markers and finished with 22 points.
Also back from the 2022 team are Grace Morse and Jillian McGinley. Morse led the Wolves with 27 draw controls and supported the offense with 10 goals, while McGinley was the team leader a season ago with 26 caused turnovers and 33 groundballs.
Analiese Black was the team's goalie in 2022, finishing the season with 81 saves, a .329 save percentage and a 13.75 goals against average.
Recent History: Saturday's meeting will be just the second all-time between the two programs, with the Mount coming away with an 8-5 triumph in the only previous meeting on March 25, 2017 at Kaplan Field.
What's Next: The Knights play their second straight road game when they head to Marywood on March 7 before returning to Kaplan Field to play host to Maine Maritime on March 9. A busy week concludes with a trip to Union on March 12.
