Track And Field Excels At Home Invitational

Schneider posts two personal records for the Knights

Marlboro, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Track and Field teams opened the Outdoor season on Saturday at the MSMC Invitational. Lily O'Brien (Hauppauge, N.Y.) won the Long Jump for the Knights with Emily Schneider posting a pair of personal best marks.
 
O'Brien was victorious for the Knights in the Long Jump on Saturday with a mark of 4.51 meters. O'Brien also tied for second in the High Jump with a leap of 1.33 meters. Kitty Masayda (Watertown, Conn.) also turned in strong day in the jumps, joining O'Brien with a leap of 1.33 meters in the High Jump while adding a fifth place showing in the Triple Jump.
 
Schneider finished the day with personal bests for the Mount in both the Discus and the Shot Put. Schneider finished second in the Discus with a toss of 29.96 meters before taking fifth overall in the Shot Put with a mark of 8.88. Schneider was also one of four Knights to place within the top-10 in the Javelin, taking seventh place.
 
Lindsey Medina (Newburgh, N.Y.) scored a fifth-place finish in the Discus for the Knights, sixth in the Javelin and ninth in the Shot Put.  
 
Other strong showings in the Throws from the Mount included a third-place finish in the Triple Jump from Alyssa Millburn (Middlebury, Conn.), a ninth place finish in the Discus from Raina Quinones (West Babylon, N.Y.), and eighth and ninth place finishes from Lilly LaRocca (Park Ridge, N.J.) and Reyna Baumann (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) in the Javelin.
 
Jessica Kerrigan (Howard Beach, N.Y.) finished the day placing third in the Triple Jump with a leap of 8.27 meters and added a 12th place finish in the 100-meters with a time of 14.25 seconds. Maria Baldwin (Patchogue, N.Y.) ran to a sixth-place finish for the Knights in the 200-meters with a time of 29.49 seconds.
 
In the men's meet, Christopher Christiano (Waterbury, Conn.) took the runner-up spot in the 800-meters in 2:08.02 before placing eighth in the 1,500-meters with a time of 4:41.40.
 
Andrew Maloy had a strong day for the Mount in the field events, claiming 11th place in the Discus with a mark of 24.27 meters and a 12th place showing in the Shot Put with a heave of 8.00.
 
Commented Head Coach Fred Callo following the meet: "Great job today by our athletes in some very difficult weather elements. Congrats to Lily taking first in the Long jump, Emily leading the way for us in Shot and Discus.  Our jumpers in the Long, Triple, High did a great job, and the throwers group stepped it up today as well. "
 
Mount Saint Mary returns to action on April 2 when it travels to the United States Merchant Marine Academy.
