Softball Begins Home Schedule Tuesday Against Ramapo

Knights finished Florida trip 4-6

Newburgh, N.Y. – After 10 games in Florida over Spring Break, the Mount Saint Mary College Softball team plays its first games on campus Tuesday when it welcomes Ramapo to Newburgh for a non-conference doubleheader. First pitch with the Roadrunners is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. with Live Stats and Video available for those unable to attend.
 
At A Glance: Mount Saint Mary finished its Spring Break trip with a 4-6 overall record, scoring victories over Cornell College, Carthage, Fredonia and Macalester.
 
A trio of Knights are hitting better than .300 over the first 10 games of the season, led by a .355 mark from Samantha Bendig (Tampa, Fla.). Bendig leads the team in hits with 11 and is tied for tops on the team with three doubles. Bendig has scored a pair of runs and driven in six.
 
Laura Dentato (Farmingdale, N.Y.) leads the way for the Mount with eight RBI in 10 games played and is hitting .303. Dentato has ripped three doubles to date and is second on the team with five runs scored.
 
Sophia Reed (Rockaway, N.J.) checks in with a .318 batting average for the Mount with Olivia Ferara (Middletown, N.Y.) pacing the Knights with six runs scored. Ferara is in a three-way tie for first on the team in doubles with three and adds one RBI.
 
The pitching staff is led by Bridget Morris (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) and freshman Grace MacDonald (Concord, N.H.) who each hold a 2-3 record in the circle. Morris leads the team with 32.0 innings pitched and 37 strikeouts. MacDonald has worked 30.0 innings and fanned 21 hitters while adding a no hitter in a 2-0 victory over Fredonia.
 
As a team, Mount Saint Mary is hitting .219 and is working to a 4.57 earned run average. Opponents are hitting .281 against the Knights while producing a 2.18 ERA.
Scouting Ramapo: The Roadrunners are also coming off their trip to Florida sporting an 11-3 record. Ramapo had an eight-game winning streak stopped following an 11-6 loss to Hamilton in Florida on Friday.
 
Jaclyn Monaco leads the offense with a .545 batting average and is one of six starters for the team to hit at least .300. Monaco leads the team in hits with 24 and is tied for the team lead with 14 runs scored. Nicole Cerasi joins Monaco with 14 runs scored and is hitting .385 to date with nine RBI.
 
Avery Kontura sits atop the team leaderboard with 16 RBI, adding 13 runs scored while hitting .306. Katie Rygiel has ripped six doubles to lead the team and driven in 15 runs.
 
Marissa DiPaolo holds a 3-0 record in the circle while working to a 0.32 earned run average and has fanned 24 hitters in 21.2 innings of work. Mahogany Wheeler has worked a team-high 29.2 innings and holds a 1-0 record and a 3.54 ERA.
 
Ramapo is hitting .350 as a team and averaging 6.6 runs per game with the pitching staff working to a 3.28 earned run average. Opponents hit just .239 against the Roadrunners and hold a 5.59 ERA.
 
Recent History: Since the start of the 2014 season, Mount Saint Mary and Ramapo have played eight times with the Roadrunners holding a 7-1 record. Ramapo has won each of the last five decisions with the Mount's lone win coming in a 5-3 decision in Newburgh on April 12, 2017.
 
What's Next: Mount Saint Mary plays host to Russell Sage on March 29 before beginning Skyline Conference play on the road at St. Joseph's-L.I. on April 2.
