Newburgh, NY- Tonight Coach Butler and his team played host to the Valiants from Manhattanville College. The pregame energy was high, as the team was enjoying what might be the last nice day of the fall season.
The doubles matches were played first and the on-court battles set the tone for the rest of the evening. Very closes matches were played by
Carly Green and
Victoria Valencia as well as double partners
Peyton Curley and
Paige Shrimpton. Pushing the 1's and 3's to play their best, long rallies and close calls at the net were indicators of what was to come in the singles matches.
While the scores show the final results, they do not reflect the back and forth slug fest that was each game played.
Angelina Mainiero went to tie breakers with her opponent after she dropped the first set and pushed herself to come back and win the second. The battle was not over, the Tie breaker was a nail biter; both teams sitting court side cheering on their teammate. After 17 points played, Mainiero, who gave it her all, couldn't close the door on her opponent.
"Manhattanville played great today and gave us a good opportunity to learn, hopeful that our match tomorrow we will get another chance to build and grow as a team," said Coach Yancy Butler after the match.
In a busy week for the Knights, they will take on Purchase College tomorrow at Purchase, and enjoy a day of rest before they play Farmingdale State College on Saturday.
