Westfield, MA- Mother Nature once again disrupts a fall contest. This weekend it was the Northeast Women's Golf Conference Fall Classic that had to deal with the rain and flooding. The tournament was set to tee off on Saturday with teams traveling in on Friday. Unfortunately, because of the weather only a few of the scheduled teams were able to make it to the competition on Saturday.
The Saturday tournament was played and teams that couldn't make it were still invited to travel for Sunday's competition. This was the case the Mount Saint Mary College Women's Golf Team. Coach Crane and the team made the best of the situation and teed off.
"Proud doesn't even begin to describe our weekend. The girls have been working so hard in practice and it's starting to show on the scoreboard with 3 of 4 of our girls having career best rounds. The final results don't show how big of a finish it was for our program. This event marks 1 year of our existence as a team and really, it's a quantum leap where we are now to where we were. So again, Proud doesn't being to describe it," said Coach Crane after the match.
The team finished in 8
th place and scored the best team score they have ever scored in a NWGC event.
Kaylee Poppo lead the team with a 94, followed by,
Riley Senk (112),
Izzy Spignardo (114), and
Amber Fox (126).
The Women's Team will conclude their fall season on Oct 7
th at the MSMC Women's Golf Invitational at Powelton Country Club.
