Staten Island, NY — After a long month of tough pre-season training, Knights Swimming hit the road to Staten Island, N.Y. this afternoon for a tri-meet against the College of Staten Island (CSI) and Fairleigh Dickinson University.
The men and women fell to both opponents, but not without solid efforts across the board. The Knights were all smiles during the meet, embracing the art of swimming through sore muscles and trying some new events.

The meet kicked off with the women's 200-yard medley relay of
Emily Gursky,
Grace MacHugh, Catherine Masayda and
Meghan Wurster, who swam to a third-place finish at 2:05.55.
MacHugh and Masayda racked up the Knights' highest finishes today, both swimming to second place in individual races—MacHugh was strong in the 500-yard freestyle clocking in at 6.03:99, and Masayda came in at 1:15.13 for her 100-yard breastroke after touching out a CSI swimmer by just a tenth of a second.
Wurster also held her own in the 200-yard individual medley, with a third-place finish at 2:40.14.
Men's Recap
The men earned a third-place finish in the opening 200-yard medley relay as well. The team of
Tyler Williams,
Michael D'Ambrosio,
Jackson Lerner and Chris Astacio finished with a time of 2:00.46.
Williams had the first individual swim of the afternoon for the men, in the 1,000-yard freestyle coming in fourth with a time of 12:57.59.
Lerner and D'Ambrosio broke through competitive heats in freestyle events, Lerner placing fifth in the 200-yard race at 2:09.31 and D'Ambrosio coming in at 58:29 in the 100-yard race for fifth as well.
The goal of today's meet was to swim tough, and the Knights did just that.
"The team had a few good swims, but more importantly everyone knows what they need to work on this week," said Head Coach
Chris Mance. "They did a great job supporting each other and raced hard."
