Women’s Swimming Scores Three Victories On Senior Day

Dwight, Gursky honored at final home meet

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Swimming team closed out the regular season in strong fashion on Saturday scoring victories over Purchase 99-54, John Jay 87-63 and Brooklyn 83-72. Kristen Dwight (Newfield, N.J.) and Emily Gursky (Oakville, Conn.) each turned in strong performances in their final home meet on Senior Day.
 
Dwight finished the day with a victory in the 1,000-yard freestyle and added a third-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle for the Knights. Her winning swim came in 13:08.75 with her 100-yard race completed in 1:04.70.
 
Gursky turned in a strong swim in the 100-yard freestyle on Saturday for the Mount. She finished just ahead of Dwight in the 100-yard race, scoring a second place finish for the Mount after producing a time of 1:02.98.
 
Freshman Grace MacHugh (Newburgh, N.Y.) continued her standout rookie season on Saturday with a victory and a pair of runner-up finishes. MacHugh topped the field in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:47.67 and took the second spot in the 200-yard individual medley and 100-yard breaststroke in times of 2:27.21 and 1:15.67, respectively.
 
Kitty Masayda (Watertown, Conn.) helped spark the Mount's victories with winning times in both the 200-yard freestyle and the 100-yard butterfly. She won the freestyle race in 2:18.09 before topping the field in the butterfly event after touching out in 1:07.94.
 
Stefanie Sommer (Monroe, N.Y.) rounded out a big meet for the Mount with a triumph in the 100-yard backstroke and a second place showing in the 50-yard freestyle. Her win came in a time of 1:10.10 and she showed a time of 28.68 seconds in the freestyle race.
 
Mount Saint Mary capped Saturday's meet with a second-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The team of Gursky, Sommer, Masayda and Dwight teamed up to swim a time of 2:23.23.
 
Mount Saint Mary closes out the regular season with a 6-6 record in dual meets and will be back in action next week when it competes in the Skyline Conference Championship Meet.
