Knights Swim Past Brooklyn, Purchase On Senior Day

Tagliareni, Williams post two wins apiece

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Swimming team posted a pair of victories on Saturday, topping Brooklyn 79-58 and Purchase 89-75 on Senior Day. Tyler Williams (Middlebury, Conn.) and Joseph Tagliareni (Hackettstown, N.J.) led the way for the Mount with two individual wins apiece.
 
Swimming in the final home meet of their careers, Williams and Tagliareni turned in strong swims for the Knights on Saturday. Williams finished atop the leaderboard in both the 1,000-yard freestyle and the 200-yard individual medley in times of 12:20.30 and 2:26.09 and also collected a second-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:04.96.
 
Tagliareni scored victories for Mount Saint Mary on Saturday in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard breaststroke. He topped the field in the freestyle event in 22.56 seconds before taking the top position in the breaststroke event, touching out in 1:08.84.
 
Atticus Salazar (Queens, N.Y.) also picked up a win on the day for the Mount, coming away victorious in the 500-yard freestyle after besting the field with a time of 6:54.64.
 
Jackson Lerner (Bayside, N.Y.) supported the Mount's victories on Saturday with second place showings in the 200-yard freestyle and the 100-yard butterfly. His freestyle swim was completed in 2:04.02 before showing a time of 1:00.81 in the butterfly event.
 
Mount Saint Mary closed out the day with a win in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The quartet of Tagliareni, Christopher Astacio (Bronx, N.Y.), Salazar and Lerner claimed the top spot in a time of 1:49.28.
 
Mount Saint Mary closed out the dual meet portion of the schedule with a record of 4-5 heading into next weekend's Skyline Conference Championship.
