Kings Point, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Swimming team returned to Skyline Conference competition on Wednesday at the United States Merchant Marine Academy, falling to the host Mariners 173-33 and Maritime 106-63.
Joseph Tagliareni (Hackettstown, N.J.) continued his strong season with a trio of third place showings for the Knights.
Tagliareni finished the night with third place points for the Mount in the 200-yard individual medley, 100-yard freestyle and 100-yard breaststroke. Tagliareni touched out in the IM in a time of 2:12.13 before posting marks of 52.44 seconds and 1:15.68 in the freestyle and breaststroke events, respectively.
Tyler Williams (Middlebury, Conn.) also turned in a pair of strong swims for the Knights, taking the third position in the 1,000-yard freestyle and the fourth spot in the 500-yard freestyle. His third-place finish came in 11:47.09 before touching out in a time of 6:03.57 in the 500-yard event.
Jackson Lerner (Bayside, N.Y.) picked up a pair of fourth place finishes for the Knights, swimming to a time of 24.25 seconds in the 50-yard freestyle and 1:00.99 in the 100-yard butterfly.
To close out the evening, the 200-yard freestyle relay team placed fourth with the team of Lerner, Williams,
Atticus Salazar (Queens, N.Y.) and
Christopher Astacio (Bronx, N.Y.) completing the event in 1:55.35.
Wednesday's results move Mount Saint Mary to 2-5 overall on the season and 1-2 against conference rivals. The Knights close out the regular season on Saturday when they host Purchase on Senior Day. Events at the Kaplan Center Pool are scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m.
