Wayne, N.J. - The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Swimming team was in action for the first time in 2023 Saturday afternoon when it traveled to William Paterson.
Joseph Tagliareni (Hackettstown, N.J.) won three individual events for the Knights, who were topped by the Pioneers 97-72.
Tagliareni picked up where he left off before the break with victories in the 200-yard individual medley, 100-yard backstroke and 100-yard breaststroke for the Knights. His IM win came in a time of 2:11.81 before he topped the field in the backstroke and breaststroke events in 58.74 seconds and 1:11.39, respectively.
Tyler Williams (Middlebury, Conn.) and
Jackson Lerner (Bayside, N.Y.) each finished the day with a win and a runner-up finish against the Pioneers. Williams won the 1,000-yard freestyle in 11:49.64 before taking second in the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:47.68.
Lerner picked up a victory on Saturday in the 50-yard freestyle and took the second position for the Knights in the 100-yard freestyle. His 50-yard victory came in 24.16 seconds before he claimed runner-up points in the 100-yard race in 54.26 seconds.
Atticus Salazar (Queens, N.Y.) picked up a third place finish for the Knights on Saturday, posting a time of 2:31.76 in the 200-yard freestyle.
Saturday's loss drops Mount Saint Mary to 2-3 overall in dual meet competition. Next up for the Knights is a trip to USMMA on Wednesday for a conference meet with the host Mariners and Maritime.
