Women’s Tennis Hosts Utica, Travels To Pratt

Knights play second straight home match on Wednesday

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Tennis team looks to get back into the win column this week with a pair of non-conference matches. The Knights welcome Utica to Newburgh for a 4:00 p.m. match on Wednesday before hitting the road to take on Pratt Saturday afternoon.
 
At A Glance: The Knights begin the week at 1-4 overall and have dropped their last out outings. The Mount was edged 5-4 at Yeshiva on Tuesday in the conference opener before dropping a 7-2 decision to Bard on Saturday in the team's home opener.
 
Sadie McNair (Newburgh, N.Y.) leads the team in singles victories through five contests and is sporting a 3-2 record for the Knights. McNair is 2-0 at the second position to date and holds a 1-1 mark at the fourth slight.
 
A trio of Knights have won two singles matches on the season, including senior Julia Flynn (Naugatuck, Conn.) who has won her last two outings. Carly Green (Holbrook, N.Y.) is 2-2 in four starts for the Mount while Victoria Veloz-Vicioso (Englewood, N.J.) has won twice for the Knights.
 
In doubles play, McNair and Victoria Vlaencia (Floral Park, N.Y.) hold a 2-1 record at the second slot to lead the Mount.
 
Skyline Honors: After winning both her singles matches and teaming with McNair for doubles win at Yeshiva, Flynn was named the Skyline Conference Player of the Week on Tuesday.
 
A Look At Utica: The Pioneers enter Wednesday's contest at 1-2 overall and is coming off a 9-0 loss at the hands of Alfred on Saturday.
 
Emily Depasqualo leads the team with two singles victories, with both coming at the sixth position. Ellen Lyga and Paetra Heeren has teamed for a pair of doubles wins for Utica and the top flight.
 
Recent History: Wednesday's contest will be the first on record between the two sides.
 
Scouting Pratt: The Cannoneers will take on Purchase Friday and begin the week with a 1-0 record following a 6-3 victory over St. Joseph's-L.I. on Saturday.
 
Recent History: The two teams have met four times since 2016 with Pratt collecting three victories. The Mount did pick up a win in the last meeting, a 5-4 triumph in Newburgh on September 15, 2019.
 
What's Next: The Knights return to conference play with two matches next week, hosting Purchase on Wednesday and traveling to St. Joseph's-L.I. on Saturday.
