New Rochelle, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Tennis team opened the Skyline Conference schedule and closed out a season opening four-match road trip with a hard fought 5-4 defeat at Yeshiva.
Julia Flynn (Naugatuck, Conn.) and
Katie Murray (Highland Mills, N.Y.) each scored their first singles wins of the season against the Maccabess.
Flynn, a 2021 Second Team All-Skyline Conference selection, picked up her first singles win of the season on Tuesday. Playing at the top position, Flynn scored an impressive 6-4, 6-1 victory over her opponent to move to 1-3 in singles play on the season.
Making her season debut, Murray was in action at the fifth slot for the Knights and battled her way to a hard fought 7-5, 6-3 win for the Knights.
Newcomer
Sadie McNair (Newburgh, N.Y.) picked up her third straight singles victory on Tuesday for the Mount and moved into the team lead in singles triumphs with three. Playing at the second flight, McNair cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win to improve to 3-1 on the young season.
In doubles action, the Mount scored a win at the top position against the Macs. Flynn and McNair teamed up for the first time this season and produced an 8-3 victory for the Knights.
At 1-3 overall on the season and 0-1 in Skyline Conference play, Mount Saint Mary plays its first home match of the season on Saturday when it hosts Bard. Matches are scheduled to get underway at 11:00 a.m.
