Milton, N.Y. – Freshman
Lily O'Brien (Hauppauge, N.Y.) led wire-to-wire and scored her first career win on Sunday as the Mount Saint Mary College Women's Cross Country team scored a 20-36 victory over Yeshiva. O'Brien led the team that saw all six finishers place in the top-10.
O'Brien got off to a fast start and finished with a winning time of 23:14.19 on the 5K course at the Hudson Valley SportsDome, just under a minute quicker than
Sarah Kannenberg (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) who placed second for the Knights with a time of 24:02.32.
Running in her first event of the season,
Lauren Desrats (Warwick, N.Y.) came home in fourth place for the Mount with a time of 25:37.86 and was followed by
Priya Patel (Ozone Park, N.Y.) who took the fifth position in 26:06.33.
Alyssa Millburn (Middlebury, Conn.) and
Jessica Kerrigan (Howard Beach, N.Y.) rounded out the field for the Knights in eighth and 10
th place, respectively. Millburn turned in a time of 28:03.65 with Kerrigan coming home in 30:05.26.
"Our freshmen women did a nice job today," said Head Coach
Fred Callo. "Lily did a great job leading the race wire-to-wire, which is not easy, and Sarah did a great job fighting back for second place. Lauren and Priya each finished a gritty race for us today."
Following Sunday's win, the Knights return to the SportsDome on September 16 to take part in the New Paltz Invitational.
