O’Brien Leads Knights To Victory Over Yeshiva

Freshman leads wire-to-wire

Milton, N.Y. – Freshman Lily O'Brien (Hauppauge, N.Y.) led wire-to-wire and scored her first career win on Sunday as the Mount Saint Mary College Women's Cross Country team scored a 20-36 victory over Yeshiva. O'Brien led the team that saw all six finishers place in the top-10.

O'Brien got off to a fast start and finished with a winning time of 23:14.19 on the 5K course at the Hudson Valley SportsDome, just under a minute quicker than Sarah Kannenberg (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) who placed second for the Knights with a time of 24:02.32.

Running in her first event of the season, Lauren Desrats (Warwick, N.Y.) came home in fourth place for the Mount with a time of 25:37.86 and was followed by Priya Patel (Ozone Park, N.Y.) who took the fifth position in 26:06.33.

Alyssa Millburn (Middlebury, Conn.) and Jessica Kerrigan (Howard Beach, N.Y.) rounded out the field for the Knights in eighth and 10th place, respectively. Millburn turned in a time of 28:03.65 with Kerrigan coming home in 30:05.26.

"Our freshmen women did a nice job today," said Head Coach Fred Callo. "Lily did a great job leading the race wire-to-wire, which is not easy, and Sarah did a great job fighting back for second place. Lauren and Priya each finished a gritty race for us today."

Following Sunday's win, the Knights return to the SportsDome on September 16 to take part in the New Paltz Invitational.
